The Oliva is a vintage bicycle produced in 1979. This model has played an important role in various cycling events throughout history. It has fixed gears and features vintage components made of wood, leather and steel, as well as welded details.

Its entire look takes us back to the golden age of cycling, when it was widely used in a wide variety of races, as can be seen by the inclusion of a water bottle on its frame.

The Oliva brand was created in São João da Madeira in 1925 by António José Pinto de Oliveira. The company was dedicated to the foundry, metalworking, sawmill and mechanical carpentry industries.

Initially, sewing machines were produced, but the business expanded and gained importance, leading to the production of agricultural implements, wood-burning stoves, cast iron bathtubs, irons, taps, heaters, and even the automotive industry and bicycle manufacturing.

Over time, Oliva was bought by the American group ITT – International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation, leading the brand to bankruptcy 85 years after its creation.

This bicycle was donated to the Museu do Caramulo by João Dionísio das Neves.
