Considered the war of wars, World War II had an unprecedented impact across all continents, shaping modern society at all levels, from politics to geography, from economics to technology and from science to culture.
In celebration of this historic milestone, the Museu do Caramulo presents the exhibition “World War II in Living Color”, displaying an extensive collection of original vehicles from both sides of the conflict, complemented by hundreds of artefacts from that same period recounting stories of courage and resilience.
This collection, which first began to be put together more than two decades ago, will now be displayed across two separate buildings, illustrating the fascinating engineering and creativity involved in the manufacture of war machines and highlighting the innovation that was motivated by times of need.
Besides its powerful visual impact, this exhibition further offers visitors a remarkable Virtual Reality experience, inviting them to become immersed in iconic scenes from the conflict and transporting them to the heart of history.
The combination of this unique collection with a sensory experience aims to create an unprecedented sense of proximity to World War II, leading to a better understanding of the efforts and sacrifices endured by the ones who lived through or participated in one of the most decisive moments in our history.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, 2 August, and will run until 29 March.
