Reynard 903 – 1993
Formula 3 holds a central position in the motorsport pyramid. Created in 1950, it evolved from a category with varied regulations into a unified and highly competitive step on the racing ladder. From the 1960s onwards, national Formula 3 championships (British, French, German and Italian) became the battleground where future Formula 1 drivers emerged. Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen and Rubens Barrichello are just some of the names who won Formula 3 titles before reaching Formula 1. The category stood out for providing highly competitive racing, with chassis supplied by specialist constructors (Ralt, Reynard, Dallara) and production-based engines (Toyota, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo). The Macau Grand Prix, a Formula 3 race created in 1983, became the stage where young talents showcased themselves in front of Formula 1 team scouts. Victory in Macau earned many drivers (Senna, Schumacher, Coulthard) a contract in the top category. The Reynard 903 Volkswagen entered by the WTS Racing team, with which Michael Schumacher won the 1990 Macau Grand Prix, and belonging to the Macau Foundation, is one of the most historically significant Formula 3 cars from this period.
