The exhibition ‘World War II in Living Color’ has been visited by more than 20,000 people since its opening in early August and is currently the most visited exhibition ever in the museum’s history, confirming the public’s enormous interest in this remarkable chapter of contemporary history.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the end of humanity’s greatest conflict, this unprecedented exhibition showcases for the first time a collection assembled over more than two decades, comprising around 40 original military vehicles from both sides of the conflict, complemented by hundreds of period artefacts that evoke stories of courage, ingenuity and resistance.

Spread over more than 1,500 m² in two buildings, the exhibition offers an immersive journey that recreates the atmosphere of the various theatres of operations during the Second World War. Among the vehicles on display are tanks, armoured tracked vehicles, light and medium command vehicles, troop and equipment transport vehicles, as well as a remarkable variety of motorcycles, bicycles and less conventional models, such as an amphibious Volkswagen and a very rare tracked motorcycle. Visitors can also enjoy a Virtual Reality experience developed from scratch, which transports them directly to the heart of history.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, BPI | La Caixa Foundation, Tondela City Council and the HISTORY Channel, the exhibition can be visited every day until 19 October at the Museu do Caramulo.
