In 2025, the Museu do Caramulo recorded its best year ever since its foundation in 1953, receiving more than 47,500 visitors, an increase of 13% compared to 2024, its best year to date. The Caramulo Experience Centre, opened in 2022, welcomed around 18,000 visitors throughout the year, standing out as a centre of excellence for the restoration and maintenance of classic cars, and as a privileged space for contact with the museum’s collection reserves.
The increase in visitor numbers was due to a diverse and high-impact programme, which included the temporary exhibitions ‘The Fittipaldi Collection’ and ‘Meia Sombra’ (at the premiere of the cycle ‘Desconcentrar – A Partir da Coleção da CGD’ [Deconcentrate – From the CGD Collection]). The exhibition ‘World War II in Living Color’, which presents an extensive collection of original vehicles from both sides of the conflict, complemented by hundreds of period artefacts and a Virtual Reality experience, was the highlight of the 2025 programme. Opened in August, the exhibition quickly gained the status of the most visited ever, with around 30,000 people flocking to Caramulo to experience it.
The museum’s events calendar also contributed to the growth in visitor numbers, particularly the Caramulo Motorfestival, which exceeded 50,000 visitors for the first time, and the O Museu na Rua (The Museum on the Road) initiative, which offers direct and immersive experiences with the historic cars in the collection.
According to Salvador Patrício Gouveia, Chairman of the Board of the Museu do Caramulo, ‘The overall figure of 65,000 visitors is a sign that museums have managed to present a relevant and differentiated programme. Caramulo is in vogue and this makes us very satisfied and motivated to surprise the public again’.
