The exhibition “World War II in Living Color”, on display at the Museu do Caramulo and originally scheduled to close last Sunday, has been extended until 11 January 2026. Owing to continued demand from both individual visitors and school groups, and with over 25,000 people having already visited since its opening in August, the museum decided to prolong the exhibition, offering a final opportunity for those who have not yet seen it.
Marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the greatest conflict in human history, this unprecedented exhibition brings together, for the first time, a collection assembled over more than two decades. It comprises around forty original military vehicles from both sides of the war, accompanied by hundreds of period artefacts evoking stories of courage, ingenuity, and resilience.
Spread over more than 1,500 square metres and occupying two buildings, the exhibition offers an immersive journey that recreates the various theatres of operation of the World War II. Highlights include tanks, tracked armoured vehicles, command and troop transport vehicles, as well as a remarkable variety of motorcycles, bicycles, and more unusual models such as an amphibious Volkswagen and an exceptionally rare tracked motorcycle. The experience is further enhanced by a purpose-built Virtual Reality module that transports visitors directly into the heart of history.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, BPI | Fundação La Caixa, the Tondela City Council, and the HISTORY Channel, the exhibition is open daily until 11 January at the Museu do Caramulo.
