The Museu do Caramulo is set to inaugurate the exhibition “The Fittipaldi Collection” this coming Saturday, 15th March. This unprecedented showcase brings to Portugal the remarkable collection of cars and historical artefacts from the Fittipaldi Museum, all driven and used by the two-time Formula 1 World Champion, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, and IndyCar Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi.
The exhibition offers an in-depth journey into the career of one of motorsport’s greatest icons, gathering true relics of racing history. Among them are the legendary Copersucar Fittipaldi cars, including the 1975 FD01—the first car of the only Formula 1 team from Latin America, designed with the support of EMBRAER, a milestone that will mark its 50th anniversary in 2025. Also on display will be the FD03 and FD04, the latter securing Emerson’s brilliant second-place finish at the 1978 Brazilian Grand Prix—a historic achievement for a Brazilian team, as Fittipaldi outpaced the likes of Williams, Lotus, and Niki Lauda’s Brabham.
The exhibition also features the masterful Penske Indy PC-18 and PC-22, the single-seaters with which Emerson clinched victory at the Indianapolis 500 in 1989 and 1993. Other treasures include the Williams March 711 from 1972—the first Formula 1 car driven by José Carlos Pace—Indianapolis pace cars, and even the iconic GMC Van, awarded as the pole-position trophy for the 1990 Indy 500.
Beyond the racing machines, the showcase presents a unique collection of trophies, helmets, race suits, and gloves, including the exclusive Tiffany-designed Indianapolis 500 winner’s trophies, Formula 1 victory trophies, and other historic memorabilia, all part of the Fittipaldi Museum’s collection. This exhibition marks the world premiere of the collection, which has never left Brazil until now.
According to the Museu do Caramulo, “this is a unique opportunity to discover and connect with the Brazilian driver and one of the golden eras of Formula 1, forever etched in the memories of motorsport enthusiasts.” For Emerson Fittipaldi, bringing this collection to Portugal represents “a very special moment, not only because of the affection I have always received from the Portuguese people but also for the chance to display it in such a prestigious venue as the Museu do Caramulo.”
“I am thrilled to see the Fittipaldi Museum’s cars exhibited in such a spectacular setting, which I first discovered during the Caramulo Motorfestival. I hope my Portuguese ‘brothers’ can experience this history up close and gain a deeper understanding of Brazil’s Formula 1 legacy,” concludes the champion.
The exhibition “The Fittipaldi Collection” will be on display at the Museu do Caramulo from Tuesday to Sunday, starting 15th March—an unmissable celebration of speed, passion, and the history of world motorsport.
